Hey Friends! Today is all about letting your dark side out to play, because we are reviewing the “Villains: Unfairly Ever After” stage show at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios.
Yes, you heard that right — the villains have taken over the spotlight, and they’re not giving it back. Let’s break it down: the good, the bad, and the gloriously wicked.
This is not your typical Disney fairytale stage show. Villains Unfairly Ever After turns the classic storytelling structure on its head. Instead of the princesses getting their happily ever after, the villains step in to say: “You know what? We’re tired of losing!” and somehow, we are on their side!? I think?
Disney’s description: “Enter the realm of the Magic Mirror—where dozens of villains are trapped! They want the Mirror to reveal the truth: which villain has been treated the most unfairly of them all? Watch as Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook and Maleficent present their cases on stage, persuading with wicked wisdom and wisecracks. Will you be swayed by their hijinks and humor? It’s a spellbinding show with moving music and a most memorable finale—where you help decide who has been treated most unfairly.”
Spellbinding could not be any more accurate! The show brings together a dream team of Disney villains to finally take control of the story and the stage as they try to break through the exasperated Magic Mirror once and for all. It’s like a Broadway revue with Disney’s theatrical magic sprinkled all over it. And, the villain roster is absolutely stacked:
- Maleficent floats in with her signature regal menace and that unmistakable green fire. She is elegant and cloaked in dark magic. With her tall, black horned headdress, flowing robes like raven’s wings, and piercing green eyes, Maleficent is the very embodiment of gothic glamour.
- The mustache twirling Captain Hook appears with his self deprecating whine and is equal parts dastardly and dashing with his Shakespearan flair!
- And, of course, the one and only Cruella De Vil is the epitome of fashionable wickedness. She’s loud, theatrical, and unapologetically over-the-top. Every line she delivers sounds like it could be shouted down a runway or snarled from a tabloid headline.
What’s amazing is that each villain is absolute perfection — the performers go all-in, the choreography is sharp, and the musical numbers are original and bold.
This show is literally a banger itself, beginning to end. Imagine your favorite villain songs reimagined for the stage with heavy drums, dramatic vocals, and a bit of rock and roll concert energy. I can’t stop singing the songs and dancing to them in truly dramatic fashion. The Magic Mirror remix is amazing!
This is Hollywood Studios, so you know the production value is top-notch. The stage is cinematic glory, with dramatic lighting, fog effects, fire bursts, and projection mapping that transforms the space for each new villain in seconds. The set is literally what my dreams are made of! Costumes are lavish and theatrical — and just feel a step above your typical park show. The show moves quickly, but every villain gets their moment. Think Fantasmic meets Broadway with a dash of Villains After Hours.
So is it worth it?…….
Short answer? YES. Long answer? Also yes — especially if you’re a Disney adult who grew up secretly loving the villains, you’re into Broadway-style performances and strong vocals or just looking for something a little edgier than your typical Disney style.
Just be aware: it is a little bit dark for younger kids who scare easily. There are loud effects, ominous lighting, and a tone that skews a little more to the villainous side, obviously. But it’s still very Disney-safe. Villains: Unfairly Ever After is everything a longtime villain fan (or a new convert!) could want: it’s theatrical, dramatic, a little scary, and a lot of fun. I just caught myself smiling with delight throughout the entire show. Beginning to end, it was perfect in my opinion.
It’s also a reminder that the villains have always been some of the most entertaining characters in the Disney universe. They deserve their time in the spotlight.
So if you’re going to be at Hollywood Studios, make it a priority. Whether you’re Team Maleficent, rooting for Cruella, or just want to see Hook prance around dramatically, you won’t be disappointed. Plus, you never know how the show will end! So, it is worth catching again and again. We saw it twice and can’t wait to hit it again soon!
