Penscaloa Beach Weekend Getaway

Portofino Island Resort!

It has been a while since we hit the beach. My husband had to work in Penscola Monday so we took off Friday and hit the road for a weekend getaway. A pretty quick and easy drive down to Pensacola Beach, Florida. We stayed at an old favorite Portofino Island Resort. Portofino feels like it is at the end of the earth, in a way. Ocean on one side and bay on the other side, you can walk out onto your balcony and you are just surrounded by beautiful clear water everywhere you look.

It was the most peaceful, relaxing feeling sitting on that balcony drinking coffee in the morning, watching the dolphins play in the water. We even watched long distance swimmers, a parasailer, a sailboat and more, right from our balcony. There was a small amount of people in town considering it was Spring Break for a lot of places. The seclusion was really nice!

The weather was a bit chilly over the weekend so I may have worn on a long sleeve t-shirt and covered up with beach towels while relaxing in the beach chairs but it was still somehow so perfect. The whitest sand and the clearest water and it wasn’t overly crowded.

While we didn’t utilize the spa on this trip, I have in the past and LOVED it. I just didn’t think it was the best use of time for such a short trip.

We rented beach chairs and an umbrella, which they allow you to use on either side of the resort. We started out on the beach side and then later made our way over to the bay side, where there were few people and it was perfect for napping!

The sand is so clean and walks on the beach in the evening hours are my favorite! We found a lot of jellyfish, seashells, sand dollars and even stingray eggs. We also saw a lot of dolphins and ducks. There were several people fishing during our morning walk on the last day but we didn’t happen to see anyone catch anything.

There are great dining options, including Coastal and pizza Portofino, a large pool, a bar, a smaller pool with a hot tub at each tower, a spa, kids club and more! I really couldn’t ask for a better beach experience. All in all, a 10/10 for our weekend at Portofino Island!
