Dollywood Recap

We are back from a wonderful holiday weekend in Pigeon Forge. We had a wonderful cabin, Nesting Vacation’s The Olive Owl, that had an incredible view of Dollywood’s fireworks and drone show. We were able to sit by our private pool and watch the show together every night. It was such a wonderful location!

Our trip to Dollywood Friday quickly turned into a water logged exit. As soon as we walked in the gate, the downpour began. I literally had to wipe the rain from my face to be able to see where I was walking. We took cover and tried to wait it out. ALL of the rides were closed and stayed closed even after the rain stopped. The rain started again and kept going and going and going. A quick google search revealed that we could go to an attendant at the front gate and get a rain check. Note that your entire party must be present to get the rainchecks. You must show your current ticket and then exit the park immediatly upon receiving the new ticket. The raincheck ticket is good for a full year after it is issued.

We headed straight back to our cabin to dry out and eat some lunch. We grabbed some famous cinnamon bread on the way out of the park and warmed it in the oven for a yummy dessert. We enjoyed the rest of the day relaxing, swimming, playing games and putting a new puzzle together.

We went back to Dollywood the very next day. Cooler temps, no rain and lower crowds so it really worked out in our favor. We got to ride the new Big Bear Mountain coaster, a must do! Had a wonderful lunch at Aunt Granny’s. Rode our favorite family ride, the River Rampage. We attended a fasinating bubble show and a super fun dog show. We explored the shops and had a great day together.

We learned that we are spoiled by Disney transportation, that’s for sure! We love the quickness or running back to a resort in the middle of the day or sending the grandmother or tiny teenager back when she is tired. We enjoy not having to drive back and forth. But overall, Dollywood was a win. Good food, fun rides, great entertaining shows, and shopping. Another fun Tennessee trip is in the books.
